Cheese and Fruit Skewers with Honey Yogurt Dip

Sweet fruit and mild cheese is a pairing that children and adults both enjoy, and putting it on a skewer turns it into a party platter in 25 minutes. Grapes, strawberries and melon give color and juiciness, while cheddar cubes add salt and protein. A honey yogurt dip on the side is optional but popular. Use short, blunt skewers or cocktail picks, and skip the sticks entirely for toddlers.

Instructions

  1. Wash the grapes and strawberries and pat everything dry. Cut the cheese and melon into cubes and hull the strawberries.
  2. Thread each skewer in this order: grape, cheese, strawberry, cheese, melon, grape. Leave a little room at the pointed end so the tip stays safely covered.
  3. Whisk the yogurt, honey, vanilla and cinnamon together in a small bowl until smooth.
  4. Arrange the skewers on a platter with the dip in the center.
  5. Serve chilled. You can assemble the skewers up to 4 hours ahead, covered, in the fridge.

Tips

  • For toddlers and small children, skip the skewers and serve the pieces on a plate. Cut grapes lengthwise into quarters because whole grapes are a choking risk.
  • Use whatever fruit is in season, such as pineapple, blueberries or peaches. Mozzarella pearls or cubes of gouda can replace the cheddar.
