Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie Bowl

Frozen bananas turn creamy when blended, which makes them the best base for a chocolate smoothie bowl. Cocoa gives it a deep, bittersweet flavor, peanut butter adds richness and protein, and a spoonful of yogurt keeps it smooth. Top it with fresh banana and roasted peanuts. It tastes like a milkshake you eat with a spoon, but the only sweetener is the fruit and a teaspoon of maple syrup.

Instructions

  1. Put the milk, yogurt, cocoa powder, peanut butter, maple syrup and salt in the blender and blend for 10 seconds.
  2. Add the frozen banana slices and blend on low, then on high, pushing the fruit down with the tamper or stopping to scrape the sides. After about 1 minute it should be thick and smooth like soft-serve.
  3. Scoop into two bowls and smooth the tops.
  4. Top with the sliced banana, peanuts and chocolate shavings, if using. Eat right away.

Tips

  • Cocoa clumps in cold liquid, so blend it with the milk and yogurt first and add the frozen fruit afterward.
  • Slice the bananas before freezing them on a tray, then bag them. Smaller pieces blend faster and are easier on the blender.
