Sparkling Pomegranate Punch

This punch is made for gatherings where some guests do not drink alcohol and everyone still wants something festive. Tart pomegranate juice and sweet orange juice give a deep red drink with plenty of flavor, and sparkling water lightens it and adds fizz. Citrus slices and pomegranate seeds floating on top make it look like a party drink. Add the sparkling water at the last moment so it stays lively.

Instructions

  1. Chill all the juices and the sparkling water well in advance. A warm punch goes flat and tastes weak.
  2. In a large punch bowl or jug, stir together the pomegranate juice, orange juice and lime juice.
  3. Add the orange and lime slices and half of the pomegranate seeds. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours, so the citrus flavors the juice.
  4. Just before serving, add a generous amount of ice cubes and pour in the sparkling water. Stir once, gently.
  5. Ladle or pour into glasses, making sure each one gets a few citrus slices.
  6. Garnish with the remaining pomegranate seeds and a sprig of rosemary or mint.

Tips

  • Freeze pomegranate juice or whole cranberries in an ice cube tray and use them as ice, so the punch never gets watered down.
  • For a sweeter punch, replace half of the sparkling water with lemon-lime soda or sparkling white grape juice. Taste before adding any sugar.
